Crabs Treatment

Although crabs is an STD, it is curable. There are over-the-counter products to help get rid of crabs but it is best to go see your doctor. A common treatment to get rid of crabs is an over the counter Permethrin cream rinse. The cream is applied to the infected hair, left in for a period of time, and then rinsed out. Be sure to read the label and follow directions accordingly. There are also stronger prescription medications to get rid of crabs, such as Lindane, that is available through your doctor. In addition to applying the cream, you will still need to comb the crab infected area thoroughly with a very fine toothed comb to remove the eggs.

Trimming or shaving the infected area before treatment does help, but it does not fully get rid of the crabs. To make sure the area has been cleared of the crab infestation, the cream still needs to be applied after trimming or shaving. After the cream or ointment has been applied, try not to scratch the infected area. Even though it may still itch, scratching can prolong the time it takes to heal.

To make sure the crabs have been removed from your belongings, be sure to wash all bed sheets, towels, clothing and other linens with hot water that is at least 130 degrees Fahrenheit.
